Belarus: self-isolation completed?
Roundtable on Thursday, 29th of March, at 13:00 in the Open Estonia Foundation, Estonia pst. 5a, Tallinn
Former collective farm director Lukashenka is still in command. Many with opposing ideas spend time behind bars. Activities of NGOs and opposition are constrained relentlessly. Freedom of press does not exist, oligarchs and corruptants flourish all the more. Fights with partner to date Russia, newly formed friendship with Venezuela, flirtation with the European Union. This is the reality of Belarus today. If and how is it possible to understand the politics of Belarus, which has a fortiori deepened their isolation. What are the future perspectives?
Speakers of the roundtable are Jan Czurylowicz, Research Fellow, University of Oxford and Andrei Sannikov, International Coordinator of Charter ยด97 who has served as Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus but resigned from the post in protest against President Lukashenka's policy.
Discussion is moderated by Aivar Roop, member of the Estonian Support Group for Free Belarus.
* Working language of the event is English.
