Chancellor of Justice wishes Estonia to reach among 5 most democratic countries

Chancellor of Justice Allar Jõks received the Open Estonia Foundation's annual Concord award.
The Concorde award was also posthumously given to Ülle Aaskivi, Estonian lawyer and politician.

According to Jõks, Estonia should aim to position among 5 most democratic countries in the world. “As a Chancellor of Justice, I am embarrassed to admit that Estonia is regarded as a country with flawed democracy due to low political participation of NGOs and weak political culture," Jõks said when receiving the award. The Economist Intelligence Unit’s measure of democracy placed Estonia on the 33rd position.

Open Estonia Foundation established the Concord prize in 1997 to honor those whose impact to the development of open society in Estonia has been remarkable. Recipients are announced every year in April.
