Invitation to the cinema: Victory Day (Den Svobody) – screening of the journalistic documentary by Yury Khashchavatski and others
The journalistic documentary by Vladimir Orlov, Yury Khashchavatski and Oleg Dashkevich entitled “Victory Day” (Den Svobody) is devoted to the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic on 25 March 1918. The film was shown this spring in the European Parliament in the framework of Belarus Week devoted to the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic. The authors of the film tried to explain why the Belarusian People’s Republic had not become an independent state 90 years ago, and why Europe had not regarded recognition of the Belarusian People’s Republic as well as independence of Ukraine as promising. Orlov: “With this film, we are saying that if the independence of Belarus and Ukraine had been preserved with the help of bigger nations, those countries with the population of 50 million and huge natural reserves could have substantially influenced the history of Europe. Heartless moloch of Stalin’s empire destroyed all fathers-founders of the Belarusian People’s Republic and supporters of the idea of the state independence of Belarus which still lived in the Soviet Union.
The film will be shown in cinema Sõprus (Vana-Posti 8) this Friday, May 23 at 18:00. One of the authors, Mr. Yury Khashchavatski will be present at the screening and introduce the film. Free entrance. The screening is supported by the Open Estonia Foundation.
