The Open Estonia Foundation invites you in the framework of the Estonian Civil Society Contact Group for the Convention on the Future of Europe to a conference

"New Europe for All: Civil Society Building Bridges"

5 September 2003, 11.00 - 18.00 Tallinn, National Library of Estonia

The aim of the conference is to discuss how civil society can participate in policy-making processes in Estonia as well as in Europe. We will talk about:

what is and what could be the role of citizen participation and participatory democracy in the European Union?
can civil society bring the Union closer to its people?
has the debate on the future of Europe contributed to a more a citizen-friendly Europe?

The speakers include:

From Estonia - Ene Ergma (Chairwoman of the Estonian Parliament), Peep Mardiste (Estonian Green Movement, Chairman of the Board), Toomas Hendrik Ilves (Member of the Estonian Parliament) and several others.

From Europe - Heidi Hautala (Member of the Finnish Parliament), Dick Oosting (Amnesty International EU Office, Director), Mary McPhail (European Women's Lobby, Secretary General) and many more.

Working languages are Estonian and English, interpretation will be provided.

There is no participation fee.

The conference is supported by the European Union Phare Small Projects Programme.
