Open Estonia Foundation Announces Concord Award for 2009

On Friday, April 17, the Open Estonia Foundation (OEF) will hand over its 13th annual Concord award. With this award the Foundation honors people whose actions have had an outstanding impact on the development of open society in Estonia and abroad.

„This year’s award winner has demonstrated a genuine will for cooperation between people, extending far across state borders,” OEF’s Executive Director Mall Hellam said. The recipient attracted attention with a courageous and inspiring response to last year’s Georgian-Russian conflict, she added.

Last year the award was presented to freelance journalist Ahto Lobjakas and Radio 4 journalist Ivan Makarov, in 2007 to Chancellor of Justice Allar Jõks and posthumously to government advisor Ülle Aaskivi.

The recipient of the Concord award is announced in April every year. This April marks OEF's 19th anniversary.
