NETWORK ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR AT IHRD: Daniel Wolfe has joined IHRD as Deputy Director with special focus on policy. Wolfe comes to OSI from Columbia University, where he has been a community scholar at the Center for History and Ethics of Public Health and the recipient of a Revson Fellowship, awarded to individuals who have made a substantial contribution to public life in the city of New York. He was formerly the communications director at GMHC, the largest and oldest AIDS NGO in the U.S. A longstanding consultant to IHRD, Wolfe comes to the program with substantial knowledge of IHRD's work and that of its partners.

STUDY ON NGO INVOLVEMENT IN POLICY-MAKING

OEF and the PRAXIS Center for Policy Studies introduced a study on involvement of public and civil society organizations in policy- and decision-making processes. Involvement of interested organizations in decision-making processes has been so far arbitrary and ineffective, and the research recommends elaborating general and common principles for engaging NGOs in policy-making. SEMINAR ON PUBLIC AND NONPROFIT SECTOR COOPERATION

The Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) at Stanford University announces the establishment of the Annual Stanford Summer Fellowship Program in Democracy and Development for Mid-Career Policy-Makers and Civic Activists to be held on August 1-19, 2005. CDDRL is recruiting a group of 25-30 individuals dedicated to democracy and development promotion within their home countries (particularly in, but not limited to, the regions of the Middle East, Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and other parts of the former Soviet Union). Stanford will pay travel, accommodation, living expenses, and visa costs for the duration of the three-week program for a certain portion of applicants.
