REFORM STRATEGY FOR EDUCATION IN UKRAINE

International Renaissance Foundation; Education Support Program, OSI-Budapest

The document "Reform Strategy for Education in Ukraine," containing ten policy papers that provide analyses of current problems and give recommendations for policy interventions in the education sector, has recently been published. This document--produced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education with support from UNDP, the International Renaissance Foundation, and the Education Support Program--is a breakthrough in education policy-making in Ukraine because it is the result of a joint effort by a wide range of education stakeholders. This effort began in 2001 when the IRF, with ESP support, started a policy project that aimed at building consensus on education reform priorities. Over the course of three years, local and international education communities were involved in a process to identify new priority policy directions for the education sector in Ukraine, providing critical input into strategic documents. For more information, see www.un.kiev.ua/en/pressroom/news/302/. The "Reform Strategy" is avail

able online at www.irf.kiev.ua/files/eng/programs_edu_ep_409_en_ref_strategy.pdf. Contact: Natalia Shablya, ESP; nshablya@osi.hu
