NETWORK ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW DIRECTOR FOR PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAM: Dr. Michael Borowitz has been appointed Director of the Network Public Health Program. Dr. Borowitz comes to OSI from the World Bank, where he served as Senior Health Specialist for East Asia and the Pacific. Previously, he served as Senior Health Adviser at the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), directing British development assistance in health for the former Soviet Union. Before joining DFID, he was based in Almaty for five years directing a USAID health reform project for Central Asia. He will be based in Washington, DC, for the next several months, but will soon move to the New York office. His e-mail address is mborowitz@sorosny.org

"MOVING THE HARM REDUCTION POLICY FORWARD"

International Harm Reduction Development

The international conference on "Moving the Harm Reduction Policy Forward" organized by IHRD and the International Renaissance Foundation, took place in Kyiv on October 4-5. The main objective of the meeting was to set basic priorities for national-level work on harm reduction policy during the coming year. Participants presented models of effective campaigns for drug-control reform, equal access to treatment, and development and mobilization of people living with HIV/AIDS and injection drug users.
