NETWORK ANNOUNCEMENTS:

NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN HUNGARY: Central European University, OSI-Budapest, and the Soros Foundation-Hungary will be closed for a national holiday on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24.

HRGGP UPDATE: Emily Martinez, Director of the Human Rights and Governance Grants Program, is currently on maternity leave and is expected to return to work at OSI-Budapest at the beginning of 2004. In her absence please contact Program Manager Yervand Shirinyan (shirinyan@osi.hu). Emily gave birth to a son, Bence, on September 22; mother and baby are doing fine.

YOUNG VOLUNTEERS PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY

Soros Open Network Romania (SON)

Through its project "Volunteers Promoting Gender Equality in Bucharest High Schools," Partnership for Equality Center (PEC), a member organization of Soros Open Network Romania, founded two volunteer clubs for teenagers. PEC and the two clubs have started "Equal Opportunities" magazine, which contains material written by club members and which has "created a space were teenagers and teachers can contribute to building a real partnership for and between girls and boys, women and men."
