Today’s Open Society Forum Analyzes Moscow’s Political Strategies

The recognized Russian journalist Yulia Latynina and civil rights activist Oleg Kozlovsky will analyze Moscow’s domestic and foreign policy strategies and their impact to Russia’s neighbors at the XV Open Society Forum today in Tallinn.

The Open Estonia Foundation’s conference “Moscow’s Wars of Influence” will be broadcast live today from 2 to 4 p.m. by the Estonian Public Broadcasting’s news portal.

The forum’s main speaker, writer and journalist Yulia Latynina is known for her open criticism of Kremlin’s politics and her revealing articles about the authorities’ involvement in corruption cases and human rights abuses. Latynina works for the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, TV channel RTVi and radio station Echo of Moscow and regularly writes for several Russian internet magazines. In 2008 the United States Department of State awarded Latynina the Freedom Defenders Award.

Oleg Kozlovsky is the founder of several citizen movements, a leader of the “Oborona “ and “Solidarity” movements and a member of the Other Russia opposition coalition. His attempts to organize peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations have often led to arrests and persecution by the authorities. His uncompromising fight for human rights earned him the Human Rights Award from Human Rights First in October 2008.

The Open Estonia Foundation has organized Open Society Forums for 15 years, bringing together opinion leaders from Estonia and abroad to discuss the developments in society and politics. In previous years, the forum’s speakers have included the British historian Timothy Garton Ash, Martti Ahtisaari, George Soros, Susan George, Robert Putnam and many others.
