Young People Design European Energy Policy

At the initiative of the Open Estonia Foundation, a 4-day workshop Young Ideas for Europe started today at the Tallinn Jewish School, involving students from Estonian- and Russian-language schools. As a result of the workshop, participants from the Tallinn Jewish School, Haabersti Russian Secondary School and Leisi Secondary School will formulate a joint Action Plan: New Energy for Europe for 2020.

Young Ideas for Europe is a creative roleplay for young people aged 15 to 18, teaching participants to critically analyze European developments and formulate their ideas into argumented action plans. The Open Estonia Foundation's Executive Director Mall Hellam particularly values the participants' total freedom to develop their ideas. "For the future, it is vital that young people learn to understand problems and do something to solve them by themselves, instead of always turning to somebody else for answers," Hellam underlined.

At the beginning of March, a similar workshop was held at the Tallinn School No 21, whose students highly appreciated the innovative learning method and the opportunity to debate European issues.

Throughout the year more than 1000 young people from 17 EU countries will participate in the Young Ideas for Europe initiative. The special online platform allows for students to be virtually connected to each other throughout the project making this a truly multicultural and multinational event.
